My Brooklyn Sketchbook Project Journal
Dear Wonderful, Creative Y'all:
I've been interested in cutouts and layering in my art journals for quite a while. It started with my class, Fluid Fine art, where I create tunnel journals. Soon I started using my cutouts equally collage, as I teach in my new grade with 21 Secrets, Papercuts. All of this got me hungry to do more than serious newspaper cutting. I dedicated my Brooklyn Sketchbook Project journal to practise paper cutting. It'due south been a ton of fun and I'grand thrilled to share the process with you lot.
My Sketchbook Project Periodical with Paper Cut
Here'south one of the commencement pages I made in my Sketchbook Project Journal. Information technology's fun to play with opacity, and positive and negative space using paper cuts.
I also beloved when there's an interactive element to my fine art journal pages. This folio has little stamens in the centre of the flower grade. If you gently accident on them, they flutter. Isn't that fun?
This page had then many cuts! There were moments when I wasn't sure where this folio was going or whether I'd like it, but I stuck with the procedure of following i step to the adjacent, and I love the end production. Then far I haven't drawn or planned out my pages, but created intuitively, following i cutting to the next. This folio had so many cut outs! Information technology feels amazingly calorie-free. It's incredible how much weight came out of the folio.
Some other thing that fascinates me near paper cutting journals are the shadows each folio creates. It's wonderful to see how each page changes as yous turn the page and lay down the side by side page on peak of it.
Really, 1 of the most important elements to a rich art life is curiosity. I'm curious almost how to create interesting shadows. I'm curious about how to combine layers of cut paper in interesting ways. I'm curious about layering cutting lines and holes. Finally, I'm interested to see how much paper I can take out of each canvass and have information technology however hold together.
